I urge you to phone or fax 1877 227 0855 or 1899 227 0105 in the USA and obtain copies of a dental patient brochure titled Patient Education Brochure # 12 FISSURE SEALANTS AND PREVENTIVE RESIN RESTORATIONS.  This brochure 'has been produced for the international dental profession' and contains the inset paragraph which follows a short paragraph lauding water fluoridation:

I QUOTE (with bold emphasis the same as in the brochure):  
 
'However there have been some unintended consequences from the introduction of fluoride into the water.  The one of relevance to this document refers to the way in which decay operates within a tooth.  Fluoride causes a tremendous increase in the hardness of the enamel and a decrease in the solubility of the enamel in response to an acid attack caused by plaque.  Decay does not become so evident to the dentist as it did previously.  Instead of the decay forming an open cavity which was easily visualised and easily felt by a sharp metal probe, decay now tends to start inside a tooth below the enamel.  This is because the bacteria and saliva can get through at the very fine crack on the surface, we call the fissure and commence decaying at the softer portion of the tooth inside called the dentine.  As a result of this, the decay can go undetected for many, many years and ends up in what dentists refer to now as a 'fluoride bomb'.  The inside of the tooth is completely decayed but the outside looks fairly normal.  Sometimes there is a slight discolouration evident through the enamel, but often the decay cannot even be felt with a sharp metal probe - this is of major concern to dentists because for decades we have relied on diagnosis of decay by feeling the softening of the enamel with a metal probe.  We can no longer do this.'

In Australia, these brochures are currently available at $AU49.10 for 50 including express postage and $AU65.10 for 100 including express postage.  These prices were for a non-professional.  It is possible that they might be cheaper for professinals/dentists.

Hot on the heels of the move to fluoridate San Jose, we have heard from David Lamar that there is an effort to fluoridate many communities in the San Francisco Bay area. If you live in this area - or you know someone else who does - please contact David as soon as you can. San Francisco has been fluoridated for years but has recently passed legislation requiring that decisions follow the Precautionary Principle. If the Precautionary Principle does not apply to fluoridation then it applies to nothing! So perhaps if David  et al. can put together a major campaign to stop communities in the Bay area (and San Jose)  from fluoridating then a spin-off to this would be to put pressure on San Francisco to stop this outdated and foolish practice. At the very least, please let everyone you know about this and get them to our web page to view the DVD "Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation" and read the Professionals' Statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide.

Meanwhile, I have had a chance to look at Kip Duchon's power point presentation in San Jose (Kip Duchon is the engineer from the CDC who thinks he is a medical specialist) and his cherry picking of the scientific studies is atrocious. If an undergraduate did to the literature what he has done, he would get a failing grade for his paper and probably the course as well. Among other things he is claiming that fluoride is a nutrient. As science his power point is drivel, as propaganda it is effective ONLY because he wears the mantle of the CDC, and if people didn't know the track record of this agency on this issue that still works. More about the inaccuracies and false statements in this power point presentation later.

Surely, if the public is going to be brainwashed on this issue it should be at industry's expense not at taxpayer's expense! We have come to expect industry (especially polluting industry) to be the masters of spin, but what we don't expect - and shouldn't expect - is for government employees to use the same tactics. If they wish to do so let them go and work for industry - or the ADA!

As you know, the "Public Health" boys are making a push to fluoridate the San Francisco Bay Area as part of the National Healthcare agenda.  This is the 6th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. and they are trying to get the dozen cities that make up the area, to join together.
 
We are putting together a team and are looking for interested people to help stop them and hand them a major defeat.  If we go to a city council meeting with only three people, well, not much of a showing.  There really isn't a lot of work but we need numbers and local people.  
 
We are also looking for a local spokesman to interface with the media.  The position doesn't require detailed knowledge, just to share a simple story in person and over the phone with the local media.  If we get no press face time, we'll have no media coverage.
 
Could you please share with your mailing list  so we can rebuild a strong team. Many thanks

If you live in Vancouver, there is a rally to be held in front of the Fisheries & Oceans Canada office: 401 Burrard - Burrard and Pender in Vancouver, in the square on  Thursday, August 20, 2009 at NOON. The rally is called by The Wild Salmon Circle, a group of concerned citizens who want to see open-net salmon farms taken off our coast permanently.  

Alex says: 
When the Broughton pinks collapsed in 2002, their migration route was cleared of fish farms and the next generation survived better than has ever been recorded for the species.  This was not what government hoped for and it was swept under the carpet. I was asked to be scientific reviewer for a paper on this submitted to a European journal by a very senior DFO ?scientist? and I had to fight for months to get the fallow action even mentioned. DFO was trying to present that return of pinks as if it had happened magically among the farms. Now there is a DFO paper that reportedly says young salmon can survive 7 lice, but the paper does not actually present this data.  A Clayoquot ?sea lice? study partnered with the fish farmers does not present any analysis on the relationship between fish farms and lice, it did not put fish farms on their map, it does not even mention salmon farms in the main body of the text and it is saying sea lice are correlated with salt not farms. There is no data shown to support this theory.

I don?t know what else we need to realize something is corrupt here, but I don?t want to waste anymore years arguing the science, it is useless they are too big and too powerful.  But now we have something that is easy to understand and impacting many people.  Catastrophic collapse ? DFO says they don?t know why, but they know, in absence of any data, that it was not the fish farms and the Minister is in Norway selling Canada to fish farmers right now.

If 100,000 British Columbians stood up and said ?no more?  DFO has put wild salmon first we could end this madness.  To do this all the signatures have to appear in the same place otherwise we will be accused of duplicates.  Please please consider sending an urgent missive out asking your members, email list etc to sign the letter at www.adopt-a-fry.org and spread the word - simply asking DFO to apply the laws of Canada (the fisheries act) to fish farms. The industry could not continue operating if this happened, it would have to undergo major change.

Please consider endorsing my efforts here.  And if any of you know anyone at Mountain Equipment Coop could you mention this situation to them? They turned me down when I asked them to inform their million members about the letter and opportunity to take stand on this.  Their customers are all this might take to turn the tide.  Think about what happened in Broughton ? farms removed, better survivorship than ever recorded and people in Ireland and Scotland have seen the exact same thing!
